Environmental Test Equipment Solutions for Li-ion Battery Test and Validation

The effort to replace fossil fuels with clean energy has reached a new level of urgency today.  As new solutions develop, the need for specialized test equipment becomes increasingly important.

The automotive industry manufacturers are pursuing the development of the Lithium-ion battery for use as the standard storage device in HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle).  Along with their great potential as a storage device, Li-ion batteries also pose certain safety risks.  Several conditions, such as external over-heating, overload, over-discharge, too high charging current, piercing, crushing and external short-circuit, can create thermal runaway leading to leaks, smoke, gas release, fire and explosion.  The auto industry and battery manufacturers are working diligently to dramatically reduce these risks and bring their HEV and PHEV fleets to market quickly and safely.  Environmental test is an integral component in the development and validation of these valuable-yet-volatile energy storage devices.

Envirotronics and the Weiss Environmental Group have been leading manufacturers of environmental test equipment on a global scale for decades. Our unmatched expertise and extensive experience in providing specific solutions to customer-specific challenges is unparalleled in the industry.  We provide superior environmental test equipment solutions for the Li-ion Battery industry.  From meeting the environmental test requirements of the UN transportation standards to providing reinforced and safe test environments, Envirotronics is ready to accelerate your progress in the move to a cleaner brighter future.

Envirotronics Pharmaceutical Stability Test Chambers

According to the ICH Guideline Q1A, stability tests have to be performed under defined climatic conditions in order to provide evidence of the stability of active substances and pharmaceuticals.

Envirotronics now offers a range of test cabinets and test chambers, developed in cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry to meet these requirements. The test systems Pharma600, Pharma1300 and Pharma2000 were specially developed for use in laboratories and supplement the spacious walk-in chambers that are used in production areas. The functionality of the cabinets satisfies the basic requirements of the official guidelines as well as the demands of special applications.

Stability tests are an important step in the development of new drugs and pharmaceutical substances and an indispensable element in the licensing process defined by federal regulating authorities. However, these tests are just as important for safeguarding the quality of the product within the framework of quality assurance.

Together with committees from the pharmaceutical industry, experts from the licensing authorities (such as the FDA) have developed the ICH Guidelines for the harmonization of stability tests. These guidelines define standardized storage and batch evaluation as well as the time sequence of the required analytic tests.

The ICH Guidelines are valid in the EU, Japan and the USA. For other regions, climate zones have also been established. However, depending on the respective country, the execution of such tests may not be mandatory.

New EZ-Load Removeable Front Panel Makes Loading Test Specimens in Dust Chambers Easier.

Envirotronics takes the back pain out of loading test specimens in dust chambers. The new removeable EZ Load Front Panel, an option available on Envirotronics' Dust Chambers, allows the test product to be placed on the specimen rack without having to lift it over the chamber wall and lower it on the rack. It's easy to load and easy on your back.

The removeable panel is held firmly in place by compression latches. The latch pressure and the front panel gasket create a positive seal that keeps the dust out of your lab and inside your chamber, where it belongs

The photo at the left shows the D24C Dust Chamber with the front panel removed. The Specimen Rack is easily accessible with no obsructions. This is a great option when having to test heavy specimens.

To see just how easy it is to remove the front panel, load a test specimen, replace the front panel and seal the chamber, go to our
D Series Dust Chamber page and watch the video.

Envirotronics Announces its New FST and FSH Series of Standard Design, High Performance, Environmental Test Chambers.

Designed around the popular FLX test chamber platform, the new FST and FSH test chambers offer dramatically improved airflow, better gradients, and faster temperature change rates.  In addition, as a standard feature, the FST/FSH Series chambers utilize a multi-voltage transformer which make the chamber ready to use “out-of-the-box” in most global applications.

The FST models are temperature-only test chambers and the FSH models are temperature/humidity test chambers.  Both FST and FSH chambers are available in 600, 1200 and 1800 liter sizes and can be outfitted with a variety of refrigeration systems to meet the needs of stress and reliability testing applications.  A- and B-type refrigeration systems are capable of a temperature range of -40˚C to +180˚C, while C-, D-, E-, and F-type systems are capable of -73˚C to +180˚C.  As with all Envirotronics chambers, only HFC refrigerants are used.

Like Envirotronics’ FLX Series, the new FST/FSH test chambers feature a 76mm stainless steel access port, an easy-access front electrical compartment, a large workspace viewing portal with heated a window, and a heavy duty adjustable cam-type door latch.  These chambers can easily be positioned and re-positioned in a lab or industrial environment on the easy-rolling casters, which are also a standard feature.

Envirotronics FST/FSH Series standard design, high performance temperature and temperature/humidity test chambers conform to IEC 60068-2, GB/T2423, GJB/1032 and GJB/899.  For more information, visit http://www.envirotronics.com/fst.html

An Unsolicited Testimony From One of Our Customers

It's always nice to hear positive feedback. It's even better when your customers tell others how much they like working with you. Here is an unsolicited testimonial we heard about earlier this month.

  • "I have had very good service from Envirotronics.
We have purchased 2 machines in the last couple of years from Envirotronics, previously all of our equipment came from another leading supplier. I was tired of getting bad service so I contacted Mr. Weiss and have been using their equipment since then.
I personally have not had any issues. Service has been very great, it is so nice to call someone and get things done.
With running environmental machines when you have a problem it needs attention right away (in my case it does if the machine is not running I lose time). Envirotronics has been great in responding to service calls for me.
It is my opinion I have found a company that cares about the customer and that customers needs."

Thanks!

Envirotronics Fall HALT/HASS Seminars.

Envirotronics conducted very well attended HALT/HASS seminars in Bangkok on September 28th and in Penang on October 3rd. the depth of knowledge of those in attendance was evident based on the lengthy question and answer sessions at both seminars. Attendee questions centered around implementation of HALT testing, pitfalls of HALT testing, and the case studies that were reviewed.

David VanderLinde Jr., one of the key presenters commented, “Overall customer familiarity with the test methods seems more common than in the past. Now, customers are eager to learn more about the infrastructure, techniques and internal company politics that can be associated with setting up a HALT chamber.”

The majority of attendees fell into the ‘electronics’ industry category, other industries represented included automotive and universities/institutions. This seminar presented an excellent opportunity to meet with both customers and potential customers to re-enforce Envirotronics willingness and ability to help find solutions for their testing needs. However, the most important solution at these seminars was the sharing some of our real life experiences when providing customers with HALT chambers/shakers. Mr. VanderLinde added, “There are many seminars and text books that can teach our customers about HALT testing but seminar attendees were definitely interested in hearing about some real world examples of how HALT testing improved quality, reliability and reduced cost.”
