»What is Component Control?
During HALT testing, test engineers must perform temperature step stress tests on products until failures occur. Certain components may limit the engineer’s ability to test beyond a temperature extreme. With the dynamic Envirotronics Component Control feature you can keep these limiting components at an ambient temperature in order to continue your temperature stress step testing beyond the point where testing would normally cease. The Component Control feature is literally a separate environmental air conditioning unit that includes a separate controller and thermocouple. With staged heating and a proportional control valve your Component Control provides accurate temperature control to allow you to test beyond normal product limitations. Flexible ducting allows you to utilize this feature to target a specific location or component on a wide variety of products.
In the example-drawing below, it is known that the thermal limit of one of the components (power supply) will limit the test engineer's ability to test beyond a temperature extreme. The Component Control feature is used to supply air that will keep the power supply at an ambient temperature. Flexible tubing is used to apply this Component Control-conditioned air directly to the affected component. This allows testing to continue.
In the following example, product "shutdown" has occurred but it is not known which component has failed. Upon review of the data available, the Test Engineer has narrowed down the list of possible "culprits" to a few. Component Control can then be used to thermally isolate each of the components to determine if it is the component responsible that has reached its thermal limit. As in the example above, flexible tubing is used to apply the Component Control-conditioned air directly to the affected component.
